Wikipedia and the Oxford Dictionary define a “selfie” as a self-portrait photograph of oneself, generally taken with a smartphone or webcam. This is then uploaded to a form of social media such as Facebook.

Are you aware of the “March Toward 100 Million Members?” By submitting their selfies at www.americascreditunions.org, credit union members show America what 100 Million members’ actually look like!

Members post their selfies and tell why they chose their credit union over a bank as their financial institution. Using the selfie your members can post to your social media page and share why they are a part of your credit union. These posts can make for powerful statements!

Some examples from the website include:

“Credit Unions put people FIRST! You’re not just a number at a credit union you are a MEMBER/OWNER!”

“I love not having monthly fees charged to my account and that the CU gives back to its members when they have a profitable year. That was a very nice surprise the first year I received it.”

“I’m proud to be a credit union member cause when I needed help; my credit union helped me through it all.”

In the 12 months from June 2013 to June 2014 credit unions added 2.85 million memberships.  In addition, CUNA announced today that as of June 2014 credit unions have reached and surpassed 100 million memberships nationwide. Their statistics show this is equal to one in every three Americans being a credit union member.

CUNA News Now August 6, 2014, "Clearly, there is growing recognition for credit unions among consumers," said CUNA interim President/CEO Bill Hampel. "They increasingly understand that a credit union places their interests above all else, particularly in returning financial benefits to consumer members in the forms of lower rates on loans, higher returns on savings, and lower and fewer fees." He added that, in 2013, those financial benefits totaled more than $6 billion.

Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas have an overall population of 30,823,154, and 9,655,735 are credit union members, according to the website. Oklahoma native and country music star Garth Brooks knows what 100 million looks like. Over the course of his career he has sold over 120 million albums.
