On Friday, the NCUA issued prohibition orders for five former credit union employees for embezzlement and insurance fraud.
The banned employees are:
- Halina Mielczarek, who was accused of submitting 145 false health insurance claims to the self-insured United Nations FCU. She received about $87,000 for fake medical expenses.
- Jamie Askew,who pled guilty to a charge of embezzlement at St. Louis Community Credit Union. Askew was sentenced to five years of supervised release and fined more than $100,000.
- Stacy Attisano, who pled guilty to embezzlement from the now-defunct Lawrence County School Employees’ FCU. Attisano was sentenced to 30 months in prison, three years of supervised release and was fined more than $250,000.
- Krista Marie Cousino, who pled guilty to embezzlement from St. Patrick Carleton FCU. Cousino was sentenced to 270 days in prison, five years of supervised probation and was fined $160,000.
- Kerry Higashi, was charged with embezzlement from Kauai Teachers FCU. Higashi was sentenced to a month in prison, five years supervised release and fined about $44,000.
