What do you do at SIGNiX?

I am the Chief Technology Officer. I manage what's going to be in the product going forward. I also manage our team of developers and operations personnel who do the hard work of keeping SIGNiX up and running.

What does your team do at SIGNiX?

I'm part of the DevOps team. Development is responsible for creating new features and maintaining our service. Operations keeps the service running, they maintain the servers and interact with third parties that help run aspects of the service.

What do you appreciate most about your team?

Competence and humor. When I took on the CTO position, there was a lot of thought that went into taking the job, but what really cemented it was knowing the competence of the people in this team. They're really a good group of people.

Why did you begin working at SIGNiX?

The idea of working with SIGNiX was intriguing because I had been working with Fortune 500 companies for 15 years. I did a lot of great things, but I always felt like I was a tiny cog in a huge wheel. I wanted to make a bigger impact and have more influence. A smaller, growing company gave me the opportunity to do that. That's what intrigued me and keeps me intrigued.

What do you think makes SIGNiX awesome?

It's the people here. They are good, competent and relatively sane folks.

What helps you get through a bad workday?

Teammates, and a very understanding wife.

Where are you the most productive?

I'm most productive at home, since I work from home. My office, that I call SIGNiX North, is a 3.5ft x 6ft room. It was an old sewing room in this 1850s house where we live. It's perfect, it really fits me like a glove. I’m one of those standing desk people, and I think that helps my productivity as well.

What is your favorite dessert?

I make a mean pecan pie. I'm ok with others, but I'm partial to my own.

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment at SIGNiX? 

The new signing experience. That was a pretty big jump. It was a complete revamp of the interface for signing so it would work on mobile devices, be cleaner, more efficient and more intuitive. As always, there's still more to come.

What do you do to get away from work?

I spend time with my kids. We play board games together. Right now we are really enjoying a game called Pandemic, and you work together to fight outbreaks. The topic is rather heavy, but the game is really fun.  I also do taekwondo- I've been delaying getting my black belt…lots to get done here at SIGNiX!
