Texas credit union website hit by cyber attack

University Federal Credit Union just confirmed that its services were down for about two and a half hours on Thursday following a cyber attack. UFCU told Credit Union Times that they had no details about who was behind the attack or what technologies were used. The credit union stressed that their website was back up and fully functioning.

One website announced the attack with the headline People's United Bank, UMB Bank and University Federal Credit Union failed to resist in front of Al-Qassam Group.

A recent wave of powerful Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have been attributed to the Iranian-based Al-Qassam Group. In the past, the attacks have focused on large banks like Wells Fargo and Bank of America. But if the UFCU incident was a DDoS attack, it could be a sign that the group is also targeting large credit unions.
