PKI-Based Digital Signatures

Our very own Pem Guerry, Executive Vice President for SIGNiX, was involved in a conversation on a private e-signature LinkedIn group about the importance of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) based digital signatures. The debate was an interesting look into different companies' thoughts on what the industry standard should be and whether these standards will hold up in other countries. We thought his comment was so good we wanted to publish it to our own blog! Here's what Pem wrote:

"There are certainly many applications for simple e-signatures such as what some of our competitor's do, but there are many applications, markets and industries which will accept nothing less than the enhanced trust and security of a PKI-based digital signature. The legal requirement, or at least preference, for digital signatures in many countries would limit Adobe's acceptability in those markets if they turned away from their long commitment to digital signatures, and leading U.S. solutions which have dramatically reduced the complexity of PKI make it accessible here as well."

Pem's right. PKI-based digital signatures are well-respected across many countries' borders and to insure secure signatures, they're definitely needed. What are your thoughts?
