The influence of social media has extended to the healthcare industry through something called "social health." It's a combination of social media and healthcare, and it's gaining traction. In fact, one in every three consumers use social media to manage their health in some way.

From online patient support groups to education on medical topics and sharing doctor reviews—social health is all around us. And doctors have an opportunity to get into the social health game too. In fact, a 2012 study found that 24% of doctors use social media at least once a day to look for medical information. And a stunning two-thirds of doctors think social media enhances patient care.

However, with the benefits come concerns about privacy and security. Health information technology specialists have to make sure patient privacy is protected under HIPAA as healthcare providers become increasingly social. This great infographic reveals some of the leading trends in social health.
